I have a particular penchant for printing business cards. (I appreciate the beautiful efficiency of business cards: petite encapsulations of a person's life, work, ideas. BIG things, simmered down to a small card to be given away and passed around the world. What could be more lovely?) Nevertheless, I also enjoy printing other custom projects. Occasionally, I do still print from hand-set lead type. Though, more often than not, I print from photopolymer plates. Photopolymer plates are created from digital files and provide the flexibility to use any font in the world (not just the ones found in the drawers of my studio) as well as just about any graphic you could want to see letterpressed. My particular design specialty is converting scanned drawings and digital photographs into letterpress-able images. These types of graphics are particularly satisfying to see in final printed form. The aspects 'lost in translation' between the original medium and the letterpress print create a uniquely beautiful impression. |
